I remember a few summers ago there were many upon many decent punk bands in Swansea. What's happened? It seems like there's more people than ever attending Punk Shows in Swansea, yet there's hardly any new decent bands forming, which seems slightly odd to me.
I think the only decent active bands worth mentioning in Swansea at the moment are The Arteries, The Groundnuts and Independents, The Symptoms, and Ssssnakes. Is this enough bands to support a steadilly growing punk community?
South Wales as a whole, has seen a lackage of decent bands as late too, and as a person who puts on gigs, it's getting pretty hard to put on different bands than we have already, because, well, there isn't any.
What are other peoples thoughts on this? Am I overthinking about this too much? Discuss...

punk bands are a dying species it seems. however you cant seem to move without bumping into a faux metal with inappropriately placed hardcore beatdowns at the moment

I blame Morg, and the current financial down turn.
I wish I could do something in Swansea, but I'm hyper busy with work and shit all the time, so full time work, full time girlfriend and one kind of band, is already enough.
Where is there to practice anyway other than the Strand?

There's Splinters, which is in the back alley behind Sin City. That place is pretty cool. And there's that place above the indian a few doors up from Sin City too...

There's a number of factors which makes Swansea a tough place for some bands, but I presume it's the same/similar in many places across the country. It's true there aren't that many Punk bands around at the moment, which is a shame but I don't think it's a permanent thing. However there are some really decent bands around who have been doing it for a while, playing shows to a handfull of people albeit not neccassarily Punk bands. I'm wondering if there needs to be some sort of crossover in genres with local gigs but still maintaining the DIY philosophy. There'd be a much more diverse scene and it would probably strengthen it.
Without the shows from El UFO, Swansea Collective and other groups of people, then it really would be complete gash around town. There just needs to be some more sort of unity or something.

Propa Job are still about. Richie is now doing 2 "things" instead.
He does ska gigs in Swansea, cant remember what name he`s going under but his first gig is in Whitez in the not too distant future.
He is also doing punk gigs in Neath under the name "Punk Laboratory", and his first gig is April 9th.
